Get Lost in America

Our team has over 200 years of experience on the trail, oars, at the vise or behind a counter in some outdoor related outlet.

Our Tale

Writer, Traveller, Photographer, Fly Fishing Guide and Trail Bum

Spent decades lost in the wilderness with a lens pulled up to the eye clicking or rowing one of the many western rivers.   Life on a trail and tent on top a 14er, a great place to catch your breath as they say.

I have been blessed to spend over 50 years of my 60 plus on the planet on the road, wilderness, or river.

In my youth here I have become a curmudgeon  or as my friends call me these days, Capt. Grumpy.

In my youth many centuries ago I hit a white ball around courses, sometimes colored in the winter orange or yellow so we could see them. These days I adopt the Twain philosophy it ruins a good walk. Would rather hike a trail, float or wade a river with a fly rod at hand.

Founder, Fly Tyer, Trail Junkie, and Purveyor of Poor Decisions with Great Views

I’ve spent the last 50 years chasing trout, trails, and tire rotations. I’ve lived out of vans, trucks, and whatever else had four wheels and a glove box big enough to hold a spool of 5X and a half-melted Clif Bar. I’ve cast flies across the country, guided on Montana’s sacred waters, taught fly tying to everyone from future addicts to mildly curious tourists, and worked at a fly fishing school nestled in West Glacier, Montana — because apparently I like my classrooms with a bear warning.

When I’m not on the water, I’m usually above it — hiking to the summit of 23 Colorado fourteeners, knocking out 150 miles of the Colorado Trail, and wandering 400 miles of the Continental Divide Trail like some stubborn trout bum with a Garmin. With more sections added each year I am able to hike.

Get Lost in America isn’t just a brand — it’s how I live. It’s a place to share gear, flies, and travel experiences for those who know the best part of the map is the part without cell service.

So whether you’re looking for hand-tied flies, real-deal trip inspiration, or just some solid beta from a guy who’s showered in rivers more than he’s bathed in bathtubs — you’re in the right place.

Let’s get lost.

Each state I have passed through with meeting new acquaintances and adventures. Louisiana offered a wilder more open fun southern experience. The pull of my first pair of waffle stompers and Gregory internal frame pack I felt the pull to be Always Wandering. As Life on the Road & Trail Begins a New Chapter.
