West Thumb Yellowstone National Park and a Hike to Duck Lake
Once through the West Yellowstone gate on your way to Yellowstone’s West Thumb you have rough 48 miles or an hour and half drive. There are many side trips on the way down to West Thumb Geyser Basin. Such as Old Faith Lodge and Geyser complex, Biscuit Basin and many others.
Is West Thumb Geyser Basin Worth the Visit
Most would consider Yellowstone National Park West Thumb to be out of the way, Far from the the truth.
Duck Lake Hike
Duck Lake is located in the West Thumb of Yellowstone National Park. Cute little lake, a great way to stretch your legs. We encountered wildlife and very few folks. Even had several moments at the lake alone.
Hike to Duck Lake is fairly easy, total distance is nine tenth’s of a mile out and back. Elevation gain of 154 feet is mostly all on the way back to the parking lot.

- Trail is pretty wide letting you know it's busy. It's September and we met only two other couples on the trail.

Yellowstone Lake West Thumb Charm

Being the largest body of water above seen thousand feet in elevation and located in Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone Lake is one hundred thirty nine feet in depth on average with a maximum depth of three hundred ninety four feet.
Smallest geyser basin in Yellowstone National Park, being two miles long and a mile wide. Located on the shores of Yellowstone Lake adds to it’s charm.
